Mirror, Mirror on the Wall . . .
Everywhere we look, everything we hear and see focuses on our outer image and appearance….....particularly our weight. We're excessively bombarded by the media to the extent we can't pick up a magazine or newspaper, or watch a TV show or commercial that doesn't somehow focus our every waking thoughts on our weight and self image, as well as being a hot topic of conversation on radio, TV talk shows and TV newsmagazines. This is a serious and unbalanced preoccupation with the outward physical image we project, not only proving detrimental to our own self-esteem, self-imagine and personal contentment and acceptance of who we are as adults, but particularly damaging to young girls, contributing undue added pressure already heaped upon them by their peers. As your mother and grandmother most likely and very accurately stressed, it's really the inner beauty, or the "secret person of the heart"……… which should truly receive our steady focus in developing a strong, moral character that would make ourselves, our family and ultimately our creator happy. It goes without saying, outer beauty fades with passing years, but who we are on the inside remains with us a lifetime thus creating a name for ourselves respecting the person we've become. Don't get me wrong, because I wholeheartedly feel that our outward image is also important…… since it does greatly impact how we feel about and view ourselves, as well as how others view us. On the flip side of this theorem, our thoughts also greatly influence our view and acceptance of our external visage as well. So, what we feed our minds by our thoughts and preoccupation will also have a large impact on how we see and feel about our outward image. The recent popularity of "The Secret"…… mainly focuses on the philosophy that our thoughts have a direct impact on our physical well being and attitude and how we project ourselves to others, centering around the law of attraction, coupled with focusing on and developing the "attitude of gratitude". In other words, we need to meditate and be thankful for what we HAVE and not what we don't have, which ultimately allows us to position the most important things first, thereby viewing them in their proper perspective! To quote a famous saying "what the mind conceives and believes, the body achieves" basically explains if your mind conceives the idea that you CAN BE and ARE healthy, slender and happy with yourself and your life, you'll convince your conscious mind this is a fact, therefore, your subconscious mind will work towards making it a reality through the actions of your physical body. Now, with this being said, if we truly believe we are and deserve to be healthy, fit and happy, we also need to act according to our beliefs and desires. Doing so requires we take the necessary steps toward achieving our goals in the best way possible for us personally, while at the same time, not neglect cultivating our inner beauty, mental and spiritual health to achieve a healthy balance. Ok,……….but you say you've attempted the first step and tried numerous diets and started exercising, but nothing seems to work. Or, you get bored easily because the weight loss regiment is too restrictive, you feel too deprived and aren't getting the results you hoped for, therefore you get easily discouraged. Perhaps you hit a plateau and can't get the last few pounds off and become very frustrated. You're tired of counting this and weighing that and keeping track of how many points this food has and fat grams that one has. Last, but not least, you get caught up in the frustrating yoyo dieting phenomenon and say you'll never attempt to diet again. Any of this sound familiar? Sure it does. We've all been there. We've all felt or experienced one or several of these............ myself included. Then, there are so many theories and ideas from the so called "expert schools of thought" as to the best form of weight loss and dietary lifestyle. For example, in any given year a particular health "fact" or "diet" might be touted by the experts and popularly accepted as "the next best thing" or current health fad, only to learn a few years later the "facts" and theories have changed. Remember being told by the "experts" eggs were bad for us, raising our cholesterol? Now we hear eggs are good for us! Hard to keep up with all the changing opinions, isn't it? I know it could be for me, therefore, I've always followed my gut feeling.............my innate wisdom as it's also called. Therefore, only what felt right to me, or what seemed like "common sense", I accepted. I didn't jump on the bandwagon just because it was the popular and "in" theory at the moment. If something didn't make sense to me, or I had a hard time “swallowing” the hype, I steered clear from it. Case in point. When one of the alternative sweeteners first came on the market several years ago, I remember a billboard showing a picture of milk and bananas with the caption saying something like, "As natural as......". The thing is, I didn't feel the package explained what the actual ingredients were My gut feeling just couldn't "swallow" it truly was "natural" and I refused to use it, as well as other similar products. Not to say the product wasn't natural, but because I couldn't find enough validation to my satisfaction, I steered clear of it. So, basically what I'm saying is, when the experts and so called "authorities" either flip flop back and forth as to what's good and not good for us, or try to infer something is good for us but we have our doubts, we all need to follow our own innate wisdom or instinct. Another example..I'm sorry, but no one can convince me that getting calcium from ground up bones and shells in supplement form is better than ingesting it from naturally occurring foods, since we weren't meant to eat bones or shells in the first place and can’t digest it. If we can't digest it by eating it, why would it be any different if we swallowed it in a pill form? Doesn't make sense, right? One thing that will never change and loaded with common sense is that "we truly are what we eat". If we recognize that a car will not run efficiently on poor, low octane gasoline or the wrong type of motor oil, it only stands to reason that neither will our bodies….. if we repeatedly fill it with inferior, nutrition-less, empty calorie, dead and over-processed "fuel" foods laden with MSG, hydrogenated oils, low fiber, artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup. Rather than view a healthy dietary adjustment as a "diet" to stay on only long enough to reach our goal weight, we should view it as a permanent lifestyle change....... one where we gradually incorporate healthier, high fiber foods in our eating regiment, drink more pure, fresh water, eliminate dead, lifeless processed foods, eat minimal amounts of animal protein, get about 10-20 minutes of sunshine a day, while participating in the right kind of exercise for our body type and metabolism. This is no “News Flash” by any means!! Only recently have we been hearing this very thing from the many "experts" and these are facts they've finally recognized is required to achieve and maintain good health and a slender figure. It goes without saying this isn't accomplished overnight. It requires a shift in our thinking, our opinion, and our personal desires. It requires we RECOGNIZE what is best for us and not stubbornly cling to what we THINK is best for us! Not an easy task, I'll be the first to admit. It also takes a sincere desire and dogged determination to be the ultimate best you can personally be. Mind you, NOT the best your neighbor, friend or family members can be, but the best YOU can be and be willing to accept your best and not compare yourself, abilities or accomplishments to others. With that being said, as a Vegan it took me a long time to find a program, a regiment, a lifestyle that worked best for ME. I've been a vegetarian for almost 30 years now and a Vegan for about 6. I started when I was about 22 or 23 years old, after a series of cleansing fasts that jump started me toward making my gradual dietary lifestyle changes. Despite continually being mistaken for being in my 30's I'll be turning 50 this September! I strongly feel my lifestyle has contributed to me appearing younger than my years, in addition to being blessed with good genes. My Sicilian father was just shy of 98 years young when he passed away, void of most of the typical illnesses that ravage the body with the onslaught of old age. He kept his mind and body very active by composing music, inventing, writing poetry, and walking everywhere, up until about a year before his death. Needless to say, his lifestyle of eating more natural, healthier foods mainly based on the Mediterranean diet consisting heavily of olive oil, garlic, little red meat, good red wine (which recently has been discovered to be one of the best items for maintaining a healthy heart and lower cholesterol, among other things), oh, and .......eggs, greatly influenced me. In addition to raising me in this lifestyle he also introduced me to natural alternative healing, which I've adhered to since my teens. In my journey, I've also had the privilege of being introduced to a program that I've adhered to now for over 12 years…… which I feel is one of the easiest, fastest, most result oriented and potentially life and health changing natural weight stabilizing program available, which my innate wisdom told me made sense, right from the start. If we attempt to lose weight by starving or restricting ourselves, yet see very little results, not only are we frustrated.................we're likely to give it up. However, if we follow a program that
allows us to see results of while knowing that it's having a positive effect on our bodies and minds by flushing out built up toxins, thereby helping us to feel and look better with each passing day..........it's a no brainer!! Who wouldn't be excited and motivated to stick with it? What if I also told you that this program didn't require you to count calories, carbohydrates, food points or fat grams, nor required specialized pre-made foods? Also, you didn't have to combine this food with that food to get the best synergistic results Where you basically didn't have to think about what you could or couldn't eat and how often you should or shouldn't eat it, while knowing that what you were ingesting was not only helping you to lose weight, but helping your body to become healthier, thus allowing it to heal quicker. Now, doesn't that sound ideal? ~ Perhaps too good to be true? When I first heard about it, perhaps I too thought that. However, after doing it for over 12 years now I'm convinced that I've found something that makes all the other so called health and weight loss programs pale in comparison. I decided to share my discovery with
my customers This program was developed over 50 years ago by Stanley Burroughs, and has recently been gaining more popularity and publicity due to an article in People Magazine a few years back, written about Robin Quiver’s numerous results and health benefits (Howard Stern's assistant). It’s also been discussed on Oprah and The View, as well as interviews done with Beyonce Knowles regarding her experience. However, truth be told, I feel it still hasn't gotten the publicity it deserves for all the benefits and ease of use it offers, which is another reason I decided to make it the topic of my first article for my "Green Living Alternative" section on my website Especially so, since 2/3 of the
nation's population are unhealthy, overweight and more and more people
are looking for a natural weight loss program that really works!! If you haven't already heard of it, or are familiar with it but haven't investigated it further, I highly recommend you do yourself a favor and make it a point to do so now. The absolute best aspect about this program is I never have to worry about my weight getting out of hand or becoming unmanageable, since it allows me to maintain a slender size 8-10 for my 5'10" medium sized frame very easily and quickly without a list of do's and don'ts. That's not to say it doesn't have specific instructions that need to be followed for it to work properly, but everyone that has tried it says it's great not to have to think about what they can and cannot eat, how much and how often. You basically listen to what your body tells you as to when it's hungry and how much. Each year we see the need to spring
clean our home, whereas this program helps us spring clean our bodies………… It helps to rejuvenate and revitalize us physically and mentally. It's not only a good program to do in the spring but can even be done when ill health becomes an issue as well........... any time of year. It can also be done several times a year without any ill side effects, unlike other un-natural weight loss products and programs, and the best thing of all...........it utilizes ingredients easily found in our cupboards or grocery stores that are very affordable. If you follow this natural approach to weight loss and optimal health on a regular basis as I have, (in fact I just finished one a few weeks ago) I guarantee losing weight will no longer be a frustrating, pre-occupation since you'll be equipped with the knowledge and means to accomplish all your weight and health goals easily and quickly. It will help to free up your thoughts and energies allowing you to now focus on other important areas of life…. such as relationships with family, friends, and most importantly your creator, in order to have a more well rounded, fulfilling and balanced life.
